To start a new business in the Town of Westerly, you must get a license application at the Town Hall located on Broad Street - telephone 401-348-2500.
ALSO: 1. Retail sales license - costs $25.00 - purchased from May 1 to May 1 of the following year.
2. Certificate of Ownership or DBA (Doing Business As) to establish name and business name - cost of $10 - a one-time fee.
3. At the Zoning Office, located at the Town Hall, zoning approval is obtained.
4. The Tax Assessor's Office, located at the Town Hall, will certify plot number, lot number, and owner of property.
5. Application will be approved by the Town of Westerly Licensing Board, that meets every second and fourth Thursday of each month at 9:30 AM, in the town Council Chambers.
IF IN RETAIL:
A SALES TAX ID NUMBER IS NECESSARY. Application for same may be obtained by writing to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation, One Capital Hill, Providence, RI 02908 or by calling (401) 222-2950.
SUNDAY SALES LICENSE. Planning to open Sunday and holidays, a special Sunday Sales License is necessary and is obtained from the Town Clerk's Office in the Town Hall. Costs $50.00 - May 1 to May 1.
