Amigos Taqueria & Tequila has recently opened in the newly renovated restaurant space at 2 Canal St. in Downtown Westerly RI.   The space has had a complete overhaul and looks fantastic; complete with rustic wood floors, exposed brick, clean white walls, and tasteful Mexican décor. It even has an authentic Mexican Mercado selling hecho en Mexcio wares. The bar is spacious with a beautiful marble top that looks like petrified wood. It blends wonderfully with the reclaimed wood décor and bar back.

This menu has something for everyone. All the salsas and guacamole are house made and the chips house fried. Be sure to check out the taco bar and authentic Mexican tacos, even de lengua (beef tongue!) This modern Mexican eatery has a super menu and many must try items.

Amigos ChefChefs Oscar Yanez and Sandro Pezqueda are both from Mexico and cook like their mamas do at home! We have learned that Mexican food is as diverse as the large country and AMIGOS tries to incorporate a little from many regions.

 

Oscar has been a chef for 15 years.  He is self taught and grew up helping with his family owned food stand in Michoan, Mexico.  He has worked in numerous restaurants including ones in New York City.  He is known for his authentic mole sauce!

 

Sandro is from Jalisco, Mexico which is known for their tequila which is a favorite ingredient in his cooking.  He is also a self taught chef of 14 years and previously worked at Prime Time Café.

 Bio on Chef Anthony Guarneri

Chef Anthony is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island.  Anthony has worked for some of the finest restaurants in the Southern New England area including the Coast Guard House, Narragansett, Hyatt Regency, Newport, Longwood Events, Boston and Tallulah on Thames in Newport.    Anthony was part of the team that re-opened the historic Ocean House Hotel in Watch Hill.   In December of 2012, Anthony teamed up with local restaurateur, Mike Ogle, former owner of 84 High Street Café & Catering Co., to establish Pavilion Steakhouse & Banquets as the area’s premier venue for dining in the 90 seat dining room, 40 seat bar & lounge area or on the 70 covered patio.   Pavilion Steakhouse & Banquets also has a 175 seat function tent located on the east lawn of the property for catering and special events.

Since cooking classic Italian aside his grandmother in her Westerly home, Lenny Malagrino has aspired to become an accomplished chef. He excelled studying and developing his culinary technique while attending Johnson and Whales University.  He earned his degree of Culinary Arts in 2001.  Upon completion of his studies, Lenny went on to work in several respected and recognized restaurants in and around the Westerly community.  He prides himself in menu development creating dishes using local ingredients to provide a fresh dining experience for his customers.  Lenny joined forces with Pat and Evan Isted of Ashaway RI in July of 2012 prior to opening The Twisted Vine.  Since then they have been working towards making The Twisted Vine a destination restaurant in Westerly.
